Today the Great Library opens its doors to all Patrons, who have come from many of the stories and books all available on the shelves.

For this first visit, Patrons will be restricted to the Library and its grounds.

Fortunate, then, that these are impressive indeed - large gardens set up for all sorts of activities, woods surrounding the area and in the Library itself? Cafes, internet access, and the best weapons in the universe: books.

Do enjoy your first visit to the Library, Patron, and always remember the rules.

The Rules of the Library
1. Patrons cannot read further ahead in their own stories than the time they have arrived from. Any attempt to do so will result in being met with blank pages.This lack of information will also occur if trying to find out spoilers online.

2. Patrons cannot tell other Patrons how their story ends. Any attempt to do so will find the Patron unable to find the words to explain it.

3. All books must be shelved correctly.

4. Do Not Harm the Books

5. Do not interfere with the nature of Narrative Causality

[Well, clearly time to give the pup a bit of fuss and attention. The book in one hand is set down lightly so both can be used to give proper skritches.]

They look out for their own, when left to their devices. They warn one another of cruelty.

[Scanning the shelves doesn't reveal any particularly recognizable pattern Henry can discern. Still, flags are like that before a body has a code book.]

Sure there's some sort of system here.

[The Dodger glances around with a shrug]

If there is, it ain't any I know.

He's the only dog I know, [Nancy admits. She didn't have many friends outside of Bill- Bet and Toby, sure enough but they were too tumultuous to bother with a dog. Bill had Bullseye, and before him, Domino.]

D'you have one, sir?

[The slightly amused sigh on her lips is an oddly familiar sensation.]

No, my lord?

Peace only comes to those willing to fight for it.

Probably better things to figure out here than how they store the books, though.

[Most things, really. Getting home just seemed to be at the tippy top of the list.]

[Though knowing the system might help with swiping some volumes...]

No. [Which might be part of why he seems so perfectly contented to fuss over this one now.] There's no time to do it kindly.

[And a complex web of mental gymnastics to be gone through to feel remotely comfortable with the entire concept.]

[That's a little less familiar. It certainly bears a moment's quiet reflection.]

Do you think you can fight for someone else's peace?

[It doesn't stop him squinting up at the shelves, of course.]

Unless you've already got this whole thing sorted. Why we're here and all.

[He shrugs]

I find that difficult to do, lady, with-- the things I've seen of late.

[Hm. That he at least seems capable of speaking of; generalities only. It's something to continue to test, perhaps.

Or maybe, for now, it's just time to let himself rest his cheek in the press of her fingers.]

Yeah? What's it you do, then? You look the posh type. [She looks him up and down, noticing how his clothing was quite nice. You noticed those sort of things when you grew up picking pockets.

And he was distracted enough with the dog she wondered if it would be hard to pick his.]

My Bill- he works the docks, mostly. [When he wasn't breaking into houses and occasionally murdering people.] That's how he gets the time.

I suppose it would. [He shrugs. It still doesn't exactly sit right, trying to relax and enjoy himself here with how things are at home. Even with the suspicion that, once he returns, everything will be exactly as he left it.]

Do you think you'll stay long? It's a lovely place.

[There's not a huge amount of leeway to laugh on the ship. It makes a light chuckle now feel all the more freeing.]

D'you not mind it?

[It feels too forward and insistent once she's spoken it. Her lips press hard together, as if to physically hold herself back.]

If-- you do not mind the asking.

I mind, just... ain't that bothered right now.

[He's pragmatic. He'll make do wherever he is]

[At least he's being soft and pliant with her. He isn't pulling away. He isn't driving verbal daggers into her. He isn't retreating fully into himself.

He isn't Hamlet. And it's awful, but for a moment, that's painfully comforting.

Ophelia's thumb smooths protectively against Horatio's cheek, tongue clicking lightly as she shakes her head.] Then will you be kind to me, my lord?

It depends on the fight we are taken to.

That it is.

[And it would be lovely to simply wander these gardens instead of returning to Denmark. It would be a comfort to steal more time with this bright sunshine and these unfamiliar faces.

It pulls a soft sigh to her lips.] But it would be selfish, I think.

[logomachist]

[It will only last a few moments longer. This, after all, is loitering already--almost too long in the pleasantness of fussing over a dog and speaking civilly with another human being.]

A student. [One last ruffle of the pup's ears, and Enjolras scoops up the book again, making his way back to his feet.] And you?

Not at all?

[Having the chance to be properly bothered feels novel.]
